Kahn continues the long term relationship with the Michigan Opera Theatre as they launch forward as a vibrant center for the arts. The recent Master Plan for the vintage 1922 Detroit Opera House and the adjacent “Broadway” complex build on the restoration and renovations completed by Kahn in 2004. Current renovations include improvements to the infrastructure including extensive IT and Audio Visual improvements. Renovations to the education and studio spaces include labs, classrooms, dance studios and black box theatre.
The Master Plan also includes visioning for expansion of parking and development of the neighboring lot to provide lobby and gathering space at ground level as well as rooftop. The Kahn Team was asked to evaluate the highest and best use for the property owned by MOT to the east of the existing facility. Future plans include 700,000 sf of mixed use development.
